Theme:  Catholic Schools Dividends for Life

We will be celebrating Catholic Schools beginning Sunday, January 24th through Saturday, January 30th. There will be a variety of activities throughout the week which are listed below.   There is a schedule of events with some explanations.  As always, if you have any questions or need clarification please let us know.

                                   Schedule of Activities

January  24th              Opening Mass at 9:30 a.m. followed by Open House

Parents are asked to call or email the school if you would like to volunteer to help at the Open House.  We are going to select families and students for each Open House so that we are not overwhelmed with students at one Open House and do not have enough for future Open Houses.  Email or call Kathy @ 860-649-0889

January 25th               Movie Day

January 26th               Grandparents Day – Pancake Breakfast

This is a breakfast put on by the Home and School Association for grandparents.  This Is held at the Main Campus in the Church Hall.  There are two sittings for this event and it is split up according to the student’s last name.  If your child’s last name begins with A-M, breakfast will be served at 9:00 a.m.  Those whose last names begins with N-Z will meet in the child’s classroom.  If your child’s last name begins with N-Z breakfast will be served at 9:45 a.m. and A – M will meet in the classroom.  Your child will sit with his/her grandparent(s) and enjoy a pancake breakfast with them.  There is no hot lunch served on this day.

Gym classes will not be held for grades K – Grade 2.

The upper campus will host the grandparents at 12:30 p.m.

January 27th   Snow Building and Ron-A-Roll    This will be the dress Down Day instead of Friday, January 29th

Snow Building – (Depending on the snow accumulation) The students will go out and create a snow sculpture of their choosing.  The children will cover most of the front yard of the school. This activity was done several years ago and we had some wonderful sculptures.

Students must wear mittens or gloves, boots and snowsuits if available.  Upper campus students should bring a change of clothes just in case!

Ron-A-Roll  -This is an annual event run by Carol Fortin.  The children have an awesome time roller skating to music on this evening and quite a few adults enjoy the event as well.  More information will follow regarding this event so be on the lookout.

January 28th          Special Persons Day

This is an opportunity for your child to have lunch with a special person (mom, dad, aunt, uncle, friend, and godmother, godfather, neighbor and so on.)  They can either eat lunch they bring from home or the special person can bring lunch from a favorite place, such as, Subway, McDonalds, pizza and so on.  If your child will not be eating with a special person, please be sure they bring a lunch to school this day.  There is no hot lunch served on this day.

This will be held at the main campus from 11:30a.m.-1:00 p.m. and at the East Campus from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m.   The times have been split to allow time for those “special persons” who need to visit both campuses.  Grades PK-2nd will eat at 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. and Grades 3-5 will eat at 12:15 – 1:00 p.m.   Special persons are to meet in the Church Hall where their student will meet them.

January 28th          East Campus Open House from 6 – 8 p.m.

We are looking for parents and students to help out at this Open House.  Please call Kathy Melody at the school 860-649-0889 or send in a note to your child’s teacher if you and/or you child will be able to attend.

January 29th         Math & Science Fair / Geography Bee / Buddy Day

This is an event when the students pair up with another grade and work together on a special project.  The KinderBears buddy up with the Fifth Graders.  The First Graders pair up with the Third Graders and Grade Two pairs up with Grade Four.  The East Campus will buddy up with the Prekindergarten. Each teacher plans an activity that the students work together to do.  It is a great opportunity for students young and old to interact and have fun together.  It is priceless to watch the younger children try and read to the older ones when they are finished with the activity.

Students from the East Campus will remain at the main campus for the day.

January 30th            Home School Sponsored Polish Dinner

The polish dinner will be held in the church hall starting after the 5:00 p.m. Mass.  Tickets start at $10. for adults and $3. for children.  There will be macaroni and cheese available for those children who do not like polish food.  Please note the polish dinner will mainly consist of pierogies and stuffed cabbage which will be home made by Mrs. Anna Lukas, the mother of Sarah in grade seven and Mrs. Andrea Sauer, the grandmother of Robbie Giola in grade two.
