Auction We will be having our auction and wine tasting event on Saturday.  Please help us to make this a huge success.  There are many wonderful items and you will feast on some wonderful appetizers.  Come for the fun, the company and especially to show your continued support of our school.  Tickets are $25. per person or $45. per couple.  This is our last big fundraiser for the school year, help us make it BIG!

Lower your Tuition Bill!  Here is just a reminder that one of our major goals is to increase enrollment.  The school board came up with this plan several years ago that can put money in your pocket and increase enrollment at the same time. $250 will be deducted from your tuition for any new family that you may get to enroll in Assumption School .  This program supersedes any other previous plan.

Poetry Night – We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Mrs. Hallowes and Mrs. Forde for all the preparation and practice that was put into last night’s poetry event.  The children were nervous but extremely confident due to their teachers’ confidence and support. This is a night that students and parents look forward to.  It also symbolizes for the fifth grade students that it is close to the end of their elementary years as they prepare to move into the junior high. CONGRATULATIONS to all of the students for a job well done!

Great Lake Script The holidays and holydays are over, but you can still buy script cards. You not only can fulfill your fundraising obligation, but can also earn money to be put toward next year’s tuition.  50% of the rebate you earn is applied to your fundraising assessment.  Once the $300 fundraising obligation is met, the remainder of your Great Lake Script rebate is applied to next year’s tuition.

Tuition Assistance – This year our tuition assistance will be done with the same company that currently does our tuition collection.  In order to apply for tuition assistance you need to go to (factsmgt.com) and click on Hot Links in the left hand corner and apply.  For those who do not want to apply on line we now have the paper forms in the office.  Please feel free to stop and pick one up or call the office and Mrs. Melody will send one home to you.

Before & After Care School Programs – This is just a reminder to all parents using the Before and After Care program that children must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m.  Any parents picking up their children after 5:30 p.m. will be charged a dollar ($1.00) a minute.  The only exception will be if Liz Barry receives a phone call relaying an emergency in getting to the school on time.  Picking up students on time is a courtesy to the staff on duty who also have families to get home to.

BINGO Players Needed!  Please join us at the Assumption Church Hall every Tuesday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm for a fun evening of Bingo.  Although Bingo does not begin until 6:30 pm, the doors open at 4:00 pm, and the kitchen at 5:00 pm.  Before the game, you can try one of Bob’s famous burgers, or Romeo’s hot dogs.  In addition, coffee, tea, sundaes and cookies are also available.  Please bring your family, friends, and neighbors.  The proceeds are donated to the Assumption school and are used to support Catholic Education.  If you have any questions, please contact Romeo Dube at 646-1326, or R.Dube1@cox.net.

Jelly Bean Contest – The eighth grade class is holding a jelly bean contest.  There is a large jar of jelly beans in the school lobby for students to take a chance on.  The winner closest to the number of jelly beans in the jar will receive the complete jar of jelly beans.

Tickets are 2 for a $1. and can be purchased during snack time each day.

Half Days – Please mark your calendar for the end of the year closing days.  June 16th will be the last day for After Care.  June 17th and 18th will be half days with noon dismissal.  June 18th is the last day of school for this school year.

Good Search – This is just a reminder to ask you to please use the “Good Search” engine when roaming the web.  Remember we receive 1 (one) penny every time this site is used by the Assumption School family and friends.  It is free money and we know it does work.  “A penny saved is a penny earned.”

Summer Camp - Mrs. Barry will once again be running the summer camp for our young students.  Registrations can be found in the blue folder or on line.  Please complete as soon as possible so that we know if we have enough students to run the program.  We don’t think this will be an issue, but we need to let our Business Manager know how many students will attend.  The summer camp is for students in PreK, K and Grade 1.  The camp will begin on Monday, June 21st.

Graduation, year end parties, dances offer important “Time to Talk” opportunities

Dear Parents,

The end of the year festivities have begun:  graduations, proms, parties, and dances seem never-ending.  This time of year offers many teens a taste of new freedoms and increased opportunity and temptation to engage in risky behavior(s). “A new study by Liberty Mutual surveyed over 2,500 11th and 12th grade students from across the country.  Findings show that teens don't recognize the dangers of driving on prom and graduation night, even though they recognize their peers may be more likely to drink on these occasions. Nearly all of the students surveyed, 90 percent, reported that their peers are more likely to drink on prom night and 79 percent reported the same for graduation night. Despite believing that their peers are more likely to drink during prom and graduation, only 29 percent reported that they believe driving on prom night is dangerous, while 25 percent said the same for graduation night.” (Time to Talk.org)

Time to Talk.org offers the following helpful tips and advice for parents and caregivers to help keep celebrations safe and healthy:

·         “Know Your Teens' Plans (and friends) and make it clear you expect to be updated if the itinerary changes so you're aware of their whereabouts.”

·         “Check In With Them Via Text - they are more likely to reply, since it's discreet. You can send messages like "Hope ur having a gr8 time!" or "U OK?" before and after the dance/activity.”

·         “Trust Your Teens and resist the urge to hover.  If you've filled them in on the rules and the risks - chances are they got the message.”  Remind them that they can always call you for help- no matter what the scenario.

It is important for parents to take the “time to talk”.  Age-appropriate conversations that begin in early childhood help to lay the foundation for a lifetime of ongoing open effective communication which helps to promote respect, health and wellness.   Please add: Timetotalk@drugfree.org to your address book to ensure access to updates from The Partnership for a Drug free America .

Blessings,

Mrs. Kumnick, (Mrs. K.), RN, MSN
