Anti-Bullying Program - At the Task Force meeting on May 19th Task Force members and a small group of parents discussed having an anti-bullying workshop. Yesterday, June 2, Mr. Rich Kolher of Elite Karate in Glastonbury presented his program to the upper campus students from 12:15 to 1:45.  Mr. Kolher presented an excellent program while keeping the full attention of the students.  His program included some role playing but we ran out of time to complete his full agenda.  I do believe the students learned a great deal that will help to keep them safe and free from bullying as well as not being a bully.  This presentation offered the students a variety of ways to deal with different bullying situations. They learned how important it is to stand up for themselves as well as being a support for others. I believe what they have learned today, will help them in their every day life especially our eighth graders as they move into the high school environment.  It is planned to have Mr. Kolher return in the fall for both campuses.

Mr. Christian Cashman, the principal of East Catholic High School has graciously informed us of awards given to some of our former graduates. Here is another one of our graduates who received an Academic Honor: Jonathan Vandenbrug.   Unfortunately his name was missing from the original list.  Congratulations Jonathan, we are proud of you!

Important Meeting -The Task Force began their meetings in April and met frequently to reach the goal set for completion by June 15th so that a report could be presented to all parents and parishioners before the close of this school year.  The Task Force has met their goal and will join Father Cavanaugh to present the recommendations to all parents and parishioners of Assumption School and Parish on Wednesday, June 16th at 7 p.m. in the church hall. We are confident that you will not only appreciate the work and findings of the Task Force but the outcome of their meetings and the future of our school.

Tuition Assistance – This year our tuition assistance will be done with the same company that currently does our tuition collection.  In order to apply for tuition assistance you need to go to (factsmgt.com) and click on Hot Links in the left hand corner and apply.  For those who do not want to apply on line we now have the paper forms in the office.  Please feel free to stop and pick one up or call the office and Mrs. Melody will send one home to you.

Great Lake Script The holidays and holydays are over, but you can still buy script cards. You not only can fulfill your fundraising obligation, but can also earn money to be put toward next year’s tuition.  50% of the rebate you earn is applied to your fundraising assessment.  Once the $300 fundraising obligation is met, the remainder of your Great Lake Script rebate is applied to next year’s tuition.

Lower your Tuition Bill!  Here is just a reminder that one of our major goals is to increase enrollment.  The school board came up with this plan several years ago that can put money in your pocket and increase enrollment at the same time. $250 will be deducted from your tuition for any new family that you may get to enroll in Assumption School .  This program supersedes any other previous plan.

BINGO Players Needed!  Please join us at the Assumption Church Hall every Tuesday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm for a fun evening of Bingo.  Although Bingo does not begin until 6:30 pm, the doors open at 4:00 pm, and the kitchen at 5:00 pm.  Before the game, you can try one of Bob’s famous burgers, or Romeo’s hot dogs.  In addition, coffee, tea, sundaes and cookies are also available.  Please bring your family, friends, and neighbors.  The proceeds are donated  to Assumption School and are used to support Catholic Education.  If you have any questions, please contact Romeo Dube at 646-1326, or R.Dube1@cox.net.

Summer Camp – Last Call - Mrs. Barry will once again be running the summer camp for our young students.  Registrations can be obtained from the school office.  Please complete as soon as possible so that we know if we have enough students to run the program.  We don’t think this will be an issue, but we need to let our Business Manager know how many students will attend.  The summer camp is for students in PreK, K and Grade 1.  The camp will begin on Monday, June 21st.

Coffee Anyone?  We would like to thank Mrs. Duval for volunteering to make the coffee for Bingo nights.  Mrs. Mitchell has also offered to be a fill in.  A big thank you to Mrs. Biathrow and Mrs. Bedard for making the coffee throughout this past year.

Memo

To:                  Parents of children attending Assumption School

From:              Diana Dudzinski

Date:               June 2, 2010

Subject:           UNIFORM EXCHANGE and DONATIONS

We would like to try to coordinate the exchange of used school uniforms this year.  We have our eighth grade class and fifth grade girls that will not need the uniforms they currently have for next year, as well as others that simply need a new size.

If you are interested in participating please contact Dianna Dudzinski at jandddudzinski@cox.net with the details of the item you can donate/exchange or need.

If you have something to donate please use DONATE as the subject of the email and describe the item you are willing to donate including the size of the item.  You may also just send in the uniform to the school.

If you have something to donate and are also looking for something in exchange please use EXCHANGE as the subject matter and specify what you have as well as what you would need including size.

If you are just interested in seeing if you can get a used uniform for next year please specify your needs and use WANTED in the email subject.

Depending on the interest we may also have used uniforms available Field Day June 15th.

In order for uniforms to be exchanged by June 15 Ms. Ouellette has agreed to allow dress down days starting Monday June 14th.

KIDUCATION FUNDRAISER FOR ASSUMPTION SCHOOL

KIDUCATION boxes are provided through the organization, Community Crusades for Children, INC.. For every pound of clothes and shoes donated, the school will receive 1-3cents.

Advantages: No cost to the school or church and all school families, parishioners and surrounding neighbors can participate.  The money earned may start out small but has potential to grow.

At this time a box cannot be placed at the school, so if you own a business and would be willing to have one box placed in your parking lot please let me know and I will provide you with the contact information for the Kiducation office. Some of the schools that participate in this program are:

St. Edwards School                              Profit      $3,953.00

Shelton Public Schools                                      $3,754.00

Southington Public Schools                              $2,655.85

Seymour Public Schools                                    $5,158.00

Orange Public Schools                                       $6,828.00

Manchester Public Schools                               $6,415.00

Celentano School                                 $10,000.00

Branford Public Schools                                    $14,149.00

All Saints School                                                 $1,130.00

There are at least 90 schools in CT that participate in this program.  If we have families in need in our own school and parish, we can let the Kiducation organization know, and they will provide clothing to them.

At this time I have not found a location for a box, and I would like to start the program before the end of the school year.  While we are waiting for a business to volunteer to have a box placed in their parking lot, I will start collecting clothes and delivering them to New Haven . Once we have a box location, the Kiducation organization will come deliver the collection box and empty the box once a week. Regardless of how the clothes get to New Haven , all donation profits will go to the school. Why not make money on the clothes we would be donating to charity as our families grow. If you are interested in helping, please let me know.

I will be collecting clothes and shoes on the Fridays of each week, starting on June 4th .

Thanks!

Rosemary
