Important Meeting -The Task Force began their meetings in April and met frequently to reach the goal set for completion by June 15th so that a report could be presented to all parents and parishioners before the close of this school year.  The Task Force has met their goal and will join Father Cavanaugh to present the recommendations to all parents and parishioners of Assumption School and Parish on Wednesday, June 16th at 7 p.m. in the church hall. We are confident that you will not only appreciate the work and findings of the Task Force but the outcome of their meetings and the future of our school.

Field Day – Will be taking place next Tuesday, June 15th.  Sign up information will be found in the blue folder.  Parents are asked to find a tee shirt in the color that each child’s team is designated to wear.  Lunch will be provided but the children are asked to bring bottled water or a cup to get water from the thermos which will be in front of the school.

All Volunteer Hours and Fundraising Assessments need to be paid as soon as possible so all school books can be closed by June 30, 2010.  If you should have questions on your bill please call Mrs. Melody  860-649-0889

Tuition Assistance Deadline – The deadline to apply for Financial Assistance is June 10th by 12:00 noon.  This deadline is so that parents can be informed of the amount of financial aid they will be receiving by June 17th.  However, this does not mean that the applications for financial aid are over.  Families can still apply for aid when they register.  When FACTS returns the amount of aid determined, parents will then be notified of the amount of aid.  Once the amount of financial aid is determined this amount will be deducted from the tuition.

We would like to inform you of the great success of both the Auction & Wine Tasting and the Golf Tournament which was held last week. The

Auction raised  over $10,682.50 with a few small bills left to pay and the Golf Tournament raised $7,400.  Special thanks to Bethany White and Christine Mercier who chaired the event and their many helpers.  Also to Mr. Thomas Villandry and his committee which worked hard to make the Golf Tournament a huge success.

Tag Sale Assumption School will be having a Tag Sale on June 19th from 9 – 3 p.m.  Items can be dropped off from June 10th – 17th after 5p.m.and

Tuition Assistance – This year our tuition assistance will be done with the same company that currently does our tuition collection.  In order to apply for tuition assistance you need to go to (factsmgt.com) and click on Hot Links in the left hand corner and apply.  For those who do not want to apply on line we now have the paper forms in the office.  Please feel free to stop and pick one up or call the office and Mrs. Melody will send one home to you.

BINGO Players Needed!  Please join us at the Assumption Church Hall every Tuesday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm for a fun evening of Bingo.  Although Bingo does not begin until 6:30 pm, the doors open at 4:00 pm, and the kitchen at 5:00 pm.  Before the game, you can try one of Bob’s famous burgers, or Romeo’s hot dogs.  In addition, coffee, tea, sundaes and cookies are also available.  Please bring your family, friends, and neighbors.  The proceeds are donated  to Assumption School and are used to support Catholic Education.  If you have any questions, please contact Romeo Dube at 646-1326, or R.Dube1@cox.net.

Tutoring anyone? -  Mrs. Forde is offering to tutor any student in math and/or reading this summer.  The fee will be $25 per hour.  If anyone is interested see the enclosed flyer.

Summer Camp – Last Call - Mrs. Barry will once again be running the summer camp for our young students.  Registrations can be obtained from the school office.  Please complete as soon as possible so that we know if we have enough students to run the program.  We don’t think this will be an issue, but we need to let our Business Manager know how many students will attend.  The summer camp is for students in PreK, K and Grade 1.  The camp will begin on Monday, June 21st.

Great Lake Script The holidays and holydays are

over, but you can still buy script cards. You not only can fulfill your fundraising obligation, but can also earn money to be put toward next year’s tuition.  50% of the rebate you earn is applied to your fundraising assessment.  Once the $300 fundraising obligation is met, the remainder of your Great Lake Script rebate is applied to next year’s tuition.

Lower your Tuition Bill!  Here is just a reminder that one of our major goals is to increase enrollment.  The school board came up with this plan several years ago that can put money in your pocket and increase enrollment at the same time. $250 will be deducted from your tuition for any new family that you may get to enroll in Assumption School .  This program supersedes any other previous plan.

Nurse Notes:

FUN IN THE SUN
Source: http://www.aap.org/advocacy/archives/tanning.htm
Babies under 6 months:
-- The two main recommendations from the AAP to prevent sunburn are to avoid sun exposure, and dress infants in lightweight long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and brimmed hats that shade the neck to prevent sunburn. However when adequate clothing and shade are not available, parents can apply a minimal amount of sunscreen with at least 15 SPF (sun protection factor) to small areas, such as the infant's face and the back of the hands. If an infant gets sunburn, apply cold compresses to the affected area.
For All Other Children:

-- The first, and best, line of defense against the sun is covering up. Wear a hat with a three-inch brim or a bill facing forward, sunglasses (look for sunglasses that block 99-100% of ultraviolet rays), and cotton clothing with a tight weave.
-- Stay in the shade whenever possible, and limit sun exposure during the peak intensity hours - between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
-- On both sunny and cloudy days use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater that protects against UVB and UVA rays.
-- Be sure to apply enough sunscreen - about one ounce per sitting for a young adult.
-- Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating.
-- Use extra caution near water and sand (and even snow!) as they reflect UV rays and may result in sunburn more quickly.
HEAT STRESS IN EXERCISING C HIL DRE N

Source: http://www.aap.org/policy/re9845.html
-- The intensity of activities that last 15 minutes or more should be reduced whenever high heat and humidity reach critical levels.
-- At the beginning of a strenuous exercise program or after traveling to a warmer climate, the intensity and duration of exercise should be limited initially and then gradually increased during a period of 10 to 14 days to accomplish acclimatization to the heat.
-- Before prolonged physical activity, the child should be well-hydrated. During the activity, periodic drinking should be enforced, for example, each 20 minutes, 5 oz of cold tap water or a flavored sports drink for a child weighing 90 lbs, and 9 oz for an adolescent weighing 130 lbs, even if the child does not feel thirsty.
-- Clothing should be light-colored and lightweight and limited to one layer of absorbent material to facilitate evaporation of sweat. Sweat-saturated shirts should be replaced by dry clothing.
-- Practices and games played in the heat should be shortened and more frequent water/hydration breaks should be instituted
