Agenda:

  1. Thank you for choosing Assumption School for your child's middle school education

        a. A special welcome to parents and new students

        b. Explain Parent Ambassador program

        c. Explain the need for HSA executive board members and retention/recruitment

           committee members

        d. Hot lunch helpers

  1. Issues of safety - It is very important that you send in a note for any change in dismissal procedures.  If a student is in homework club on a regular basis, we need to know if they are not going to be coming.  Bus policy rule - cannot take bus to a friend's house if not a regular on the bus.

  2. Review homework policy - DONE AND ON TIME; if not, one day late the mark drops a grade; two days late, drops another grade; three days late = a "0; some assignments would have to automatically be a zero if not done on the due date, as an assignment is totally contingent on the next day's lesson, e.g. Math homework.

  3. Marks below 70 or any very low mark with respect to a student's ability, needs to be signed and returned within 48 hours; otherwise, it will be a zero.  Some teachers want all tests signed and will discuss this in the breakout session.

  4. Correcting tests, quizzes, etc. - It is a pedagogical fact that students learn from their mistakes; therefore, the teacher may give a test or assignment back to a student to correct.  If this is done, students need to correct and indicate where they got their answers, i.e., page and paragraph in the text or notes.  With math, the work must be shown.

  5. Progress reports will be issued the 7th of October for the first interim period.  All students will receive them the first term; thereafter, only those who need to have their attention brought to the fact that they may be in danger of failing.

  6. Cross level grouping for reading/literature: Flexible throughout the year; determined by teacher recommendation, standardized test scores and verbal subtest on the cognitive ability's tests.  Students have been grouped to maximize their learning potential.

  7. Uniform concerns - some students have shoes that mark floors.  They need to be changed.

        a. Policy regarding dress down day - the why and the what of it.

        b. Earrings, excessive jewelry, make-up, fingernail polish, etc.- discuss the policies

  1. Tardy policy - strictly adhered to this year.

  2. COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME - VERY IMPORTANT

  3. Please don't believe everything your child tells you; they're not liars, they're just being adolescents, and their filtering system is a bit skewed from reality at times.

  4. Concerns about the reputation of members of our school family - teachers, parents, other students - please do not feed into the gossip that might come home with your child.  Every child has a right to his/her reputation and that includes teachers and parents.

  5. Chain of command to be followed - go to the teacher first, administration second, pastor third, OCS only if it is seriously major.

  6. Miss Langelier - nutrition efforts, book carriers.
