Sports

   By Nadia Balassone

Sports Quote- “We didn’t lose, we just ran out of time…” -Coach Miffit

***  Fall is here, and that means sports are starting again!  There are soccer, basketball, 4-square, and many more.  Speaking of 4-square, the season is over for now, and the standings were:

 1.       Alex Mesnil-53 pts.

2.       William Bannerman-40 pts.

3.       Benjamin Carlson-39 pts.

4.       Nick Greika-37 pts.

These people recieved awards for top 4.

5. Curtis Bolduc-36 pts.

6. Shelby Smith-28 pts.

7. Megan Gargano-25 pts.

8. Avery Hill-16 pts.

***  Connect-4 will be starting in the winter.

SOCCER

We have many soccer players in our school.  Some play travel soccer for their towns.  On Sunday the 5th, three soccer games were going on:

*** Madison Mullen and Shelby Smith played for the Manchester U13 Division against Enfield at Kennedy Field leaving with a 5-4 score.  Sadly they lost this game.

*** Another game took place at Veteran’s Field at 3:00 p.m.  The Manchester All-stars team includes Nathan Chalifoux, Avery Hill, Joshua Laprise, and Ben Carlson (who scored a goal).  Happily they walked away with a win of 4-0.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The last game on Sunday was played by Dylan Burns of 7th grade for Oakwood soccer club, FSA division.  The score was 1-1.

Above: Josh, Avery, Ben, and Nathan of the Manchester All-stars team.

Basketball season has started already!  Some kids play for Manchester Basketball Association (MBA).  On Wednesday the 8th, Maggie Munzu of the Red team and Nadia Balassone of the Orange team went head-to-head playing each other at Illing gym at 7:15 P.M. Some scorers included Nadia Balassone with 2 pts. It was a fierce game of 8 strait quarters, but only one team can win. The Red team walked happily away cheering with the score of 37-21.  Our school season will also start soon.

Autumn Humor

I love autumn.  I love watching the leaves fall.

Autumn is a season for big decisions - - like whether or not it’s too late to start spring cleaning.

Autumn - - time to drag out your winter clothes and see what summer fun the moths had.

Poems

Autumn

By Emily Dickinson

The morns are meeker than they were,

The nuts are getting brown;

The berry’s cheek is plumper,

The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a gayer scarf,

The field a scarlet gown.

Lest I should be old-fashioned,

I’ll put a trinket in.

 A Naughty Pumpkin’s Fate

A queer little pumpkin, a jolly fat fellow,

Stood close to his mother so round and yellow.

“What a stupid old place! How I long to aspire,”

Cried he, “I was destined for something much higher.”

“My son,” said the mother, “pray do be content,

There’s great satisfaction in life that’s well spent!”

But he shrugged up his shoulders, the pumpkin, it is true,

And acted just like some bad children will do.

With a shout and a whoop, in the garden they ran,

Tom and Ned, for they’d thought of the loveliest plan

To astonish their friends from the city, you see,

With a fine Jack-o’-lantern- -“Ah, this one suits me!”

Neddie seized the bad pumpkin, and dug out his brains,

Till he felt so light-headed and brimful of pains:

Then two eyes, a long nose, and a mouth big and wide,

They cut in a minute, and laid him aside.

Until night, when they hung him upon a stout limb,

With a candle inside; how his poor head did swim,

As they twisted him this way, then twirled him round that,

Till at last, with a crash, he fell on the ground flat,

A wrack of the once jolly, fat little fellow,

Who stood by his mother so round and yellow.

Just then a lean cow, who was passing that way,

Ate him up, just to finish HER “Thanksgiving Day”

 Awesome Eighth Grade Experiments:

For the past couple of weeks, the eighth graders have been very busy during science class. They have been doing different experiments using polymers. Just in case you are wondering, polymers are large molecules linked in chains. Polymers form many things including plastic and rubber.

The eighth grade has been using calcium, sodium alginate, polyacrylamide, marshmallows and fruit snacks. They have been learning a lot and having a lot of fun!

The eighth grade each made a monomer and they all put theirs together to make a giant polymer!

Flip-Flop Drive

The eighth grade flip-flop drive went very well. We collected over 80 flip flops! There are many different sizes and colors of flip-flops. We’re sure that Haiti will be very thankful for all the flip flops. We’ll definitely try to do more to help Haiti in the future.
